The Robert Cemetery

The Robert Cemetery is located on the north side of Tye Branch Road just north of the intersection with Richard Pollins Road (about halfway between Gillison Branch Road and Cypress Branch Road/US 601). This cemetery is believed to be the location of the original Black Swamp Baptist Church, established in 1786, and it is named for members of the Robert family, many of whom founded the Black Swamp Baptist Church or worshiped there in later years. This was the first burial ground for members of the Black Swamp Baptist Church and contains many outstanding examples of early grave carvings and funerary art.
